New Take on Lionel The Lion.

White Lion Walk unveils a new take on Lionel the Lion!
White Lion Walk Shopping Centre was delighted to announce that on Saturday 27th November a stunning painting of the centre’s mascot, Lionel the Lion was unveiled. The painting was revealed by its creator, 15 year old Charlie Sullivan who was commissioned to create the piece following her success in a previous design competition held by White Lion Walk.

Charlie was joined by one of Britain’s most cherished wildlife artists and conservationists, David Shepherd, as she has kindly donated part of her fee to his foundation’s, Gir Lion project. The project helps motivate and train the frontline staff who are making a big difference in protecting the critically endangered Asiatic lion.

Lionel the Lion takes a sip out of the World's largest coffee mug
On Friday 5th November, Office Manager of White Lion Walk Shopping Centre, Dawn Phelps,  presented a cheque for £130 to Macmillan Cancer Support with a little help from the Centre’s cheeky mascot Lionel the Lion. The presented cheque is all thanks to the commuters of Guildford who kindly donated money for a Starbucks coffee and a Millie’s Cookie back in September during the world’s biggest coffee morning at Artington Park and Ride.

White Lion Walk welcomes fantastic home wares store Cargo to Guildford
On Thursday 4th November, Cargo Home shop, the home wares and furniture store, returned to Guildford after a ten-year break and opened their doors to the public at their new home in White Lion Walk Shopping Centre.

Officially opened by The Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Marsha Moseley and White Lion Walk’s adorable mascot, Lionel the Lion, staff at the Cargo store generously handed out champagne and even offered free goodie bags worth over £25 to their first 25 customers

Spooky goings on at White Lion Walk

Spooky goings on at White Lion Walk!
On Sunday 31st October, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre was the place to be for lots of Halloween fun. With the safest trick or treat trail in town, a costume competition and ghoulish face painting; there were plenty of spooky shoppers enjoying their day.

Throughout the day children were invited to come down to the Centre, look out for the shops with the pumpkin poster in the window and venture inside to request their treat. What’s more, at 1pm the Centre held a fabulous fancy dress competition, Yana Alexandrova aged 12 and her sister Maggi Alexandrova, aged 6, proved to be the scariest of them all.

They were presented with a Giant Halloween themed Cookie courtesy of Millies Cookies, a gumball machine, a Coin maker and a Magic Hat containing magical items all from Hawkins Bazaar perfect to go with there witches outfits.

Coffee Morning White Lion Walk raise £130 for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of the World’s biggest Coffee Morning
On Friday 24th September, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre made friends with hundreds of
commuters travelling into the centre of Guildford via Artington Park and Ride as they treated
them to free Starbuck’s coffee and Millie’s cookies.
The main point of the morning was to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support through
their World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign. As Macmillan help thousands of sufferers
throughout the year the people of Guildford were incredibly generous when donating for their
coffee and cookies, which resulted in over £130 being raised throughout the morning.

White Lion Walks BIG Donation In aid of the British Heart Foundation
White Lion Walk Shopping Centre is holding a BIG Donation event in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to help fight the UK’s biggest killer – heart disease - which claims the lives of 200,000 people every year.  The event at White Lion Walk is part of the BHF’s biggest ever stock appeal throughout September – The BIG Donation, which aims to help replenish the charity’s local shops with enough stock to meet ever growing demand.
  The proceeds made from the shops will be invested in to vital research, heart nurses and defibrillators which will save countless lives in our community.

Humungousaur at White Lion Walk

Humungousaur is a hit with the kids at White Lion Walk
The Ben 10 fans had a real treat on Saturday 21st August when the animated children’s television character from Ben 10: Alien Force, Humungousaur came to meet and greet the children of Guildford at White Lion Walk Shopping Centre.

Humungousaur is a humanoid dinosaur alien from the planet Terradino and appears in the hugely popular programme, Ben 10: Alien Force which is broadcast on Cartoon Network and CN Too. Humungousaur took a break from bench pressing pickup trucks and came and entertained the kids.

Shoppers enchanted at White Lion Walk
On Saturday 14th August, visitors to Guildford’s White Lion Walk were treated to a fabulous day of storytelling where the staff of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre told the charming tale that has enchanted children and adults all over the world, Guess How Much I Love You.

Guess How Much I Love You has been adapted for the stage by David Wood, the UK’s leading writer and director of children’s theatre which will be on stage at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre from Thursday 26th– Saturday 28th August.

Fireman Sam trip for Tot

Fireman Sam trip for tots
To celebrate Fireman Sam appearing at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre joined forces with the Surrey Advertiser to offer one lucky youngster the chance to win tickets to see the show. After receiving a fantastic number of entries, two-year-old Emi Pickering was selected as the lucky winner and also won a bumper pack of toys from Hawkins Bazaar.

On Monday 9th August she was presented with her prizes by Lionel the Lion, Operations Manager Trevor Gomm and Laura Butler from the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.

Kids of Surrey amazed when Peppa Pig visited White Lion Walk Shopping Centre!
The animated children’s television favourite, Peppa Pig made a special visit to White Lion Walk Shopping Centre on Saturday 7th August to meet and greet lucky children in Guildford. The hugely popular and BAFTA award winning children’s television character left behind Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig and George to say hello to all the little girls and boys who were shopping with their parents within the Centre.

Christmas really does come early for White Lion Walk!
White Lion Walk Shopping Centre bagged first place at this year’s Guildford Lion’s Charitable Raft Race on Saturday 03.07.10 as well as being presented with the ‘Best Design & Engineering’ award. Following this year’s theme of Christmas Comes Early, the White Lion Walk team were unrecognisable posing as Elves working at Santa’s workshop.

The raft designed to look like Santa’s workshop was decorated with gingerbread men, lollipops, sweets, Christmas presents and had a full sound system playing Christmas music. The centre management team dressed up as elves and a Santa and they managed to come in first at a time of 47 minutes

Everyman World Cup

Keep your eye on the ball at White Lion Walk and help raise money for the Everyman Charity
On Saturday 12th June, the World Cup truly kicked off as England played their first match against the USA.   In celebration White Lion Walk Shopping Centre put together a ‘Keep your eye on the ball’ event in the hope of raising money for a charity that should be close to every man’s heart – The Everyman Charity, which provides crucial research and awareness of prostate and testicular cancer.

From 11am – 4pm a football face painter was on hand and for just a small donation, shoppers had their face transformed into anything from England flags to mini footballs

Twilight Competition

TWILIGHT FANS BATTLE IT OUT FOR TOP TITLE
A Film fanatic has been crowned Twilight Mastermind 2010 after winning a closely fought competition at the White Lion Walk Shopping Centre.

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre teamed up with the Surrey Advertiser to offer fans the chance to win tickets to watch the film and £200.00 of film goodies.

Army Cadets 150th Anniversary

Surrey Army Cadets celebrate 150th anniversary with Lionel the Lion!
On Saturday 1st May, visitors to White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford were standing to attention as the Surrey Army Cadet Force (ACF) came in to raise awareness of their organisation as 2010 marks the Forces 150th anniversary.

From 10am – 4pm, Captain Adrian Paice and his cadets were on hand to talk to any young people and their families about the fantastic possibilities available when joining the Army Cadets Force.

Alice in Wonderland had a very important date at White Lion Walk
On Saturday 3rd April, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford became a world of imagination for children thanks to the Centre’s FREE Alice in Wonderland fun day.

In celebration of the Alice in Wonderland show appearing at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, the Shopping Centre played host to storytelling sessions in Trotter’s Children’s store, free face painting and an arts and crafts workshop where young shoppers could make anything they desired from Easter cards to bookmarks and bunny masks.

Marvellous Mum

Surrey’s Marvellous Mum is crowned!
A few weeks ago White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford teamed up with the Surrey Advertiser and the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre to find a local mum that deserved a special treat and recognition for all her hard work. The competition which ran in celebration of Mother’s Day received a fantastic amount of entries, however, only one lucky mum could be selected at random and that was Karen Holder, mum to six year old Rebekah from Fleet.

On Friday 12th March White Lion Walk’s Centre Manager, Steve Cotney, the Centre’s cheeky mascot Lionel the Lion and Laura Butler from the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre presented Karen with her prizes. Karen received two tickets to see the classic story ‘When Harry met Sally’ at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre as well as dinner for two at the theatres Al Fresco restaurant on Mothers Day and a stunning bouquet of flowers, making her feel extra special.

Storytelling success at White Lion Walk!
Saturday 19th February, visitors to Guildford’s White Lion Walk were treated to a fabulous day of storytelling within Trotters Children’s Store where, with the help of the centres mascot Lionel  the staff of The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre told the charming tale We’re Going On A Bear Hunt which has enchanted children and adults all over the world.

We’re Going On A Bear Hunt by Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen, with illustrations by Helen Oxenbury’s, is a classic children’s picture book. The story follows a family who wade through the gigantic swishy swashy grass, the splishy splashy river and the thick oozy, squelchy mud!

Valentines Day

Christine sparkled for Surrey on Valentines Day
Last month White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford teamed up with the Surrey Advertiser to offer one lucky lovebird the chance to win an incredible dazzler of a prize – a diamond ring!

The competition, which ran in celebration of Valentine’s Day, received over 100 entries however only one lucky winner could be selected at random and that was Christine Wilkinson from Horsell.

Swap Shop Winner

Surrey’s Swap Shop helps one lucky winner beat the winter blues
!On Friday 15th and Saturday 16th January, Surrey’s Swap Shop was in full swing within White Lion Walk Shopping Centre, Guildford. The Swap Shop was designed for the community to bring in unwanted gifts and exchange them for something of interest that had a similar value. The event couldn’t have been more of a success with £300 being raised for local charities.

The Swap Shop was an even bigger triumph for local resident Emma Ditum though as she was selected at random to win £250 worth of vouchers to spend at White Lion Walk Shopping Centre. Visitors to Surrey’s Swap Shop were invited to enter the prize draw through a form in the Surrey Advertiser. White Lion Walk received a fantastic amount of entries so Emma was delighted to hear she had won.

Swap Shop Nightmare

Surrey’s Swap Shop removed the Nightmare after Christmas!
In 2009 White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guilford created the perfect answer to unwanted Christmas gifts, Surrey’s Swap Shop. This year due to popular demand it returned to the centre once more to remove the nightmare after Christmas. 

On Friday 15th and Saturday 16th January the Swap Shop was in full swing for the second year and just as expected it was a huge success with local residents bringing in incredible unwanted gifts to swap from George Foreman grills to best selling auto biographies from Jeremy Clarkson and Jack Dee.
