Early Christmas surprise for White Lion Walk shopper!

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford is delighted to announce that Wendy Cook from Guildford is the lucky winner of a brand new Ipad after winning the centres Scratch-back weekend competition.

Picked at random out of hundreds of entrants who signed up to White Lion Walks newsletter, Wendy was presented with her prizes by the Centre Manager, Steve Cotney on Wednesday 5th December – the perfect early Christmas present.

On Thursday 22nd November, Guildford’s Christmas lights were officially switched on, but even the most spectacular events have to go out with a bang and this year was no exception.

During the lead up to the big day White Lion Walk teamed up with the Surrey Advertiser to find one lucky winner to push the button on the firework display and this year our winner was three year old Fern Mason. In true celebrity style Fern was invited to meet the Mayor of Guildford and the star of The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre’s Pantomime Aladdin, Susie Blake, for a photo call before being whisked onto the platform to push the all-important button that saw the festive season start with a colourful bang 



Creepy Crawly Road show is a huge success at White Lion Walk

On Wednesday 31st October, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford was certainly the place to celebrate Halloween in a truly frightful style as shoppers were given the chance to meet some real creepy crawlies.  The Creepy Crawly Roadshow gave brave shoppers the chance to get up close and personal to a four metre long Albino Boa Constrictor, Scorpions, a Blue Tongued Skink and even a Tarantula. Children were also able to learn about these fascinating creatures’ habitats, diets and lifestyle, gaining a better understanding of the natural world

Sanbei welcomed to White Lion Walk!

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre is delighted to announce Sanbei Mobile Phone Accessories as their newest addition to the centre.   Despite the economic climate creating a struggle for retailers all over the country, Sanbei Mobile Phone Accessories seem to be going from strength to strength. The phone accessory shop, which has celebrated its 10th year anniversary this year, opened in Guildford’s White Lion Walk Shopping Centre on Saturday 13th October.  This is now their sixth store.


Coffee morning

Coffee Morning Huge Success with Commuters

On Friday 28th September, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre with the help of several local commuters travelling into the centre of Guildford via Artington Park and Ride, hosted one of Guildford’s biggest Macmillan Coffee Mornings. White Lion Walk treated locals to free Starbucks coffee and Millie’s cookies all with the aim or raising vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support through their World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign. Macmillan nurses help thousands of people every year in our region who live with cancer and the people of Guildford were incredibly generous when donating for their coffee and cookies which resulted in over £310 being raised throughout the morning.

Photography Comp

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford is delighted to announce the winners of their photography competition.

Hannah Venable, age 15, won with her photo of her Bowers Lane Reservoir in the under 18’s category whilst Pauline Keating from Bramley won with her shot of a field of poppies in the adult category.

On Friday 14th September, Hannah and Pauline were presented with their prizes by White Lion Walk’s Centre Manager, Steve Cotney. They won a digital camera tripod, a membership to the Guildford Photographic Society, a year’s membership to the National Trust, an introduction to bee’s lesson at White Lion Walk plus an A3 canvas print of their photo.

Honey Bee Day

National Honey Bee Day creates a buzz at local shopping centre!
On Saturday 18th August, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford celebrated National Honey Bee Day in style with an array of events throughout the centre, all to raise awareness of the White Lion Walk bees and the environmental campaign that surrounds them.
The Centre played host to an Arty Party workshop where little ones could make their own honey bees and bee masks, a face painter who transformed children in to little bees and even a colouring station to keep creative kids occupied. 

Surrey Fostering

On Tuesday 7th August, shoppers at White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford were able to meet Freda the Fostering Frog and the centre’s loveable mascot, Lionel the Lion to help promote fostering in the Surrey area.

Throughout the afternoon shoppers were able to pose for photos with the loveable mascots whilst learning all about the importance of fostering and how they could possibly help in the future.


Jelly Bean


Last month, Stateside Candy Co in White Lion Walk teamed up with Jelly Belly to run a fantastic competition where shoppers had to guess the number of jelly beans that made up this incredible portrait of Shrek.
Over 1000 people took up the sweet challenge to celebrate Independence Day on the 4th July but only three could be victorious.



On Saturday 28th July, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre celebrated the start of the games by transforming little shoppers into sporting stars thanks to their free face painter. 

What’s more, the Centre’s loveable mascot, Lionel the Lion, paraded around the mall throughout the day to greet the children and pose for photos in his patriotic cape. 



Weyfield School


On Thursday 12th July, White Lion Walk’s loveable mascot, Lionel the Lion, was the guest of honour at Weyfield Primary School as he helped the pupils celebrate their very own Olympic Closing ceremony.

Throughout the afternoon he met with the children, posed for many photographs and even entertained the crowds with his dancing moves whilst the schools teaching assistant sang a few songs.


Jubilee presentation


The Surrey Advertiser and White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford are delighted to announce that Mike Powell was the winner of the Diamond Jubilee Hamper Competition that we ran last month.  Mike was presented with his Jubilee hamper prizes by White Lion Walk's loveable mascot, Lionel the Lion.

The hamper contained an amazing selection of jubilee memorabilia including a Diamond Jubilee Coin Collection, a 22 Carat Gold-Plated Commemorative Spoon, a commemorative Queen Teddy Bear, a complete Decorated Chess Set, featuring Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip as well as a royal tea cosy – all in all, a prize worth over £500.


Guildford in Bloom

Local Shopping Centre supports town’s beauty and sponsors Guildford in Bloom.

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford as part of their on-going commitment to nature in the town, have donated £1,000 to Guildford in Bloom.

The donation was made following council budget cuts that darkened the future of the Guildford in Bloom committee. The money will now enable all of the hard working volunteers to run their annual competition which sees many local businesses, residents and gardening fanatics go green fingered to create stunning floral creations from best garden for wildlife to best business in bloom.




To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford held their very own regal event for shoppers on Saturday 2nd June.  Throughout the day, visitors took part in a royal treasure hunt lead by Henry VIII with scrumptious edible rewards from Millie’s Cookies.

With themed bunting, a free face painter and Union Jack flags being given away, it certainly created a patriotic atmosphere to add to the normal Saturday shopping trip.


Wildlife Donation

Surrey Wildlife gets a summer boost thanks to White Lion Walk!

On Wednesday 30th May, Steve Cotney, Centre Manager at White Lion Walk, was joined by members of the Guildford Lions as they presented a cheque for £1,000 to the Surrey Wildlife Trust, for their Forest Schools Programme, which delivers out of classroom learning in school grounds and local green spaces across Surrey.
The donation has come from White Lion Walk’s success in the 2011 Guildford Lion’s Charity Raft Race as they won the ‘Champion Fundraiser’ award by collecting almost £2000 in sponsorship.



Butterfly Day

White Lion Walk launches nature appeal!

On Saturday 19th May, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford hosted a very special Butterfly Awareness Day for shoppers both young and old, as part of their nature and wildlife programme of events.

To coincide with the national ‘Save Our Butterflies Week’ which launched last Friday and runs until Sunday 27th May, the centre provided a variety of both fun and educational activities throughout the day.



Animal Farm

Shoppers enjoy animal farm

White Lion Walk in Guildford provided a shopping experience with a real difference this Easter as they hosted an animal farm within the centre.

Featuring a cow, sheep, goat, donkey, baby chicks, chickens, rabbits, ducks and even a dog, there were plenty of farmyard favourites for children and adults alike to enjoy.

The day was a great success with many families queuing for the chance to see the friendly farm animals.


Mothers Day Winner

Local Mum gets special reward

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford is delighted to announce that Sharon Lawrence is the winner of their 2012 Mother’s Day competition which was run in conjunction with the Surrey Advertiser and the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.

Sharon was nominated by her children for the competition as they felt she deserved a special treat for being such a fantastic mum.  On Tuesday 13th March, Sharon was presented with her hamper of prizes by the Shopping Centre’s Manager, Steve Cotney along with the loveable mascot, Lionel the Lion, as well as famous actresses Anita Dobson and Greta Scacchi who are currently starring in the acclaimed show Bette and Joan at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.

The Dray family know that all you need is love

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford is delighted to announce that Anna & Ben Dray with their baby Eva were the winners of their 2012 Valentines competition which was run in conjunction with the Surrey Advertiser and Photo Me.

The Dray family took part in White Lion Walk’s Capture the Love competition, which saw shoppers go head to head in a public vote after having their photo taken with their loved one in the centre’s Photo Me booth. From couples and best friends to families and even a police officer with his helmet, the competition received hundreds of votes but only one picture could win the prize.

Guildford Heat raises £1000 at Charity Game at Surrey Sports Park

The Heat’s mascot, Scorcher and Lionel the Lion from White Lion Walk shopping centre helped to entertain spectators at Guildford Heat’s charity game on Wednesday 15.02.12, which raised £1,000 to be split between Breast Cancer Care and the Heat Community Foundation.

The money was largely raised by fans bidding to play alongside Heat players in a friendly but competitive game, which ended with a 97-96 score. The talented Heat Street 13 dance group provided additional entertainment and there was a range of fun games for kids to participate in throughout the evening.  The raffle also proved popular, with TV presenter, Mark Evans offering a prize of a ride in his famous ‘Hill Billy’ Land rover, which he parked at Surrey Sports Park.
