2015 Postman Pat

Postman Pat® visits White Lion Walk!

On Saturday 28th November children’s favourites, Postman Pat & Jess the Cat, visited children and their families at White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford.  
The hugely popular postman was at the centre to meet and greet visitors and pose for photos with youngsters throughout the day! What’s more, White Lion Walk launched their Letters to Santa campaign on the day which invites local children to post their very own letters to Father Christmas in a special post box at the Centre. Once the letters have been posted they will be processed by the elves at White Lion Walk’s sorting office and delivered to Father Christmas in Lapland. Children will then receive their own personal response from the big man himself!

Christmas in Guildford started with a bang!
White Lion Walk sponsors biggest firework display to date at Guildford’s Christmas light switch on event

On Thursday 19th November, Guildford’s Christmas lights were officially switched on by a host of characters and celebrities, but even the most spectacular events have to go out with a bang and this year was no exception thanks to White Lion Walk Shopping Centre.

In celebration of the town’s Christmas light switch on event, White Lion Walk teamed up with the Surrey Advertiser to find one lucky child to push the start button on the firework display, and this year 11 year old Sydney Kerry from St Joseph’s School was picked as the winner.  



2015 Green Apple


White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford has won a Green Apple Environment Award in the international campaign to find the greenest companies, councils and communities.
They competed against more than 500 other nominations in the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice, and were presented with their trophy and certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony in the Houses of Parliament, London on Monday, November 16. As a result of this Green Apple Award success, they have been invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example and learn from their achievement.


2015 BraVo

Bra-vo to the ladies of Surrey, White Lion Walk’s Bra Bank is a firm success with a massive 2438 donations!

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre is delighted to announce that their Bra Bank Campaign, which came to a close last month, has collected an incredible 2438 bras from shoppers!
Launched back in April 2015 the donated bras will now raise money in two ways. First, traders in developing countries will sell the textiles to support their families, keeping them out of poverty.  Second, the bras are weighed before export, with £1 per kilo donated to the Jarvis Breast Screening Centre in Guildford - which provides one of the largest NHS breast screening services in England for women aged between 50 and 70 years old.


2015 Halloween

Snakes, snails, spooks and sweets - Shoppers treated to Halloween fun at White Lion Walk

On Saturday 31st October White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford gave shoppers a spine-tingling shopping experience thanks to its spooky Halloween entertainment.

Throughout the day hundreds of shoppers and their families got into the Halloween spirit and faced their fears by getting up close to a variety of creepy crawlies at the centre’s unique animal roadshow. With guest appearances from cockroaches, snakes, scorpions, snails, lizards, millipedes, rats, mice and even a red-backed tarantula, there was something to put the fear into everyone but it wasn’t all designed to creep people out for Halloween- specialist animal handlers were at the event to talk to shoppers about the fascinating creatures’ habitats, diets and lifestyle, enabling youngsters and adults alike to gain a better understanding of the natural world.


2015 macmillan Caring commuters raise nearly £100 at White Lion Walk’s Macmillan Coffee Morning!

On Friday 25th September White Lion Walk Shopping Centre once again hosted their annual coffee morning for commuters at Artington Park and Ride to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. This year the centre’s event raised just under £100 for the charity.

Held for Macmillan as part of their world’s biggest coffee morning, White Lion Walk representatives served coffee and cookies (courtesy of Starbucks and Millie’s Cookies within the shopping centre) to commuters going into town from 7.30am until 9.30am.



White Lion Walk is delighted to announce that one of Guildford’s favourite independent retailers, Babylon Trading, will officially be opening two new units in the shopping centre on Friday 11th September.

Babylon, which is celebrating its 25th year of bringing the best of homeware and gifts to customers based in Guildford and beyond, has moved from Tunsgate Square following the announcements of the planned redevelopments for the precinct.  Babylon's two new shops will continue to stock the products that have remained popular over time, including their extensive range of solid oak Malmo Furniture and beautiful opal jewellery, whilst continuing to evolve by offering shoppers the latest finds and fashion trends.

On Saturday 22nd August popular children’s picture book character, The Gruffalo, made a special appearance at Guildford’s White Lion Walk Shopping Centre. Throughout the day, as part of the centre’s summer holiday celebrations, The Gruffalo character met with younger shoppers and their families, posing for photographs and greeting his fans.

Steve Cotney, Centre Manager at White Lion Walk Shopping Centre, commented: "We were delighted to welcome The Gruffalo to the centre to visit our younger shoppers.  The books are incredibly popular with younger readers and the character’s appearance definitely bought a smile to the faces of lots of children who have read the stories.”


wildlife day Shoppers go wild at White Lion Walk

On Saturday 25th July White Lion Walk Shopping Centre held a unique Wildlife Awareness day for shoppers and their families featuring some very special guests including an eagle owl, a hedgehog, a rabbit, a pole cat ferret, a rat and a barn and a tawny owl. Throughout the day, as part of the centre’s ongoing commitment to the environment and local community, shoppers joined Graham Cornick and his adorable animals from the Hydestile Wildlife Hospital to learn about Britain’s wildlife and what can be done to make animals’ lives much easier.

What’s more, children got creative at the centre’s colouring and arts and crafts workstations making various pictures and collages to take home with them.


CSR White Lion Walk wins another industry award

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford has won an International CSR Excellence Award for their Waste Management efforts in the national campaign to find Britain’s most caring companies. They competed against more than 200 other nominations in the International CSR Excellence Awards 2015, and were presented with their trophy and certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony in The Empire Casino, London last month.

As a result of this International CSR Excellence Award success, they have been invited to have their winning paper published in The Global Guide to CSR Excellence (the leading international work of reference on corporate social responsibility best practice) so that others around the world can follow their example and learn from their achievement.


armed forces day White Lion Walk flies flag for family fun at Guildford’s Armed Forces Day

On Saturday 27th June White Lion Walk Shopping Centre hosted a variety of free entertainment for shoppers to celebrate the town’s Armed Forces Day. During the morning the centre management team ran free flag making workshops for the town’s visitors so they could show their support to the hundreds of personnel from the Royal Navy, Army and RAF as well as cadets and veterans who took part in the official Armed Forces parade.

Singers and performers from The Variety Collective were also on hand throughout the day entertaining visitors with war time and classic songs such as It’s a long road to Tipperary, When I’m cleaning windows and Pack up your Troubles.


Bras wanted ‘Bravellous’ idea receives tremendous support so far but there’s still time to donate

Don’t throw old bras away, bring them to White Lion Walk and help fight breast cancer

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre’s Bra Bank campaign is now in full swing and to date has collected over 525 bras – that’s an impressive 65 a week, which have been donated by shoppers since its launch on 27th April. The campaign continues until the end of October so the Guildford based Shopping Centre is now reminding Surrey ladies to continue to donate to help people and their families who have been affected by the trauma of breast cancer.


Jurassic world competition Raptor’ous applause for our Jurassic World competition winner

Last month, to celebrate the release of the much anticipated blockbuster Jurassic World, we gave our shoppers the chance to win a pair of tickets to see the film at Guildford’s ODEON cinema.

By simply liking White Lion Walk’s Facebook page and commenting on our special competition post, anyone could have had the chance to win the sought-after tickets but lucky 14 year Ben Barnett was selected as the winner. Ben was presented with his prize on Jurassic World’s opening night by the White Lion Walk’s Bryn Batten and our very own mascot, Lionel the Lion! Bryn commented: "On behalf of everyone here at White Lion Walk I would like to congratulate Ben for winning the competition – I hope he thoroughly enjoyed the film!


ROSPA White Lion Walk Shopping Centre is a winner in the RoSPA Awards 2015

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford is among the winners in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2015.
The Gold award in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) will be presented during a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre, on July 14, 2015.
As the UK’s family safety charity, RoSPA’s mission to save lives and reduce injuries covers all ages and stages of life. In support of this mission, the RoSPA Awards, which date back 59 years, recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work.

Shoppers enjoy a ‘cracking’ good Easter weekend at White Lion Walk

On Saturday 4th April White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford hosted an incredible free Easter Eggs-travaganza event offering a variety of fun activities for all the family.

Throughout the day younger shoppers took advantage of the centre’s free face painter, went exploring as part of a special an egg hunt to find scrumptious rewards and even got creative with an Easter themed arts and crafts card making workshop.

Furthermore, White Lion Walk ran a competition to ‘guess the name of the giant Easter bunny’ which was won by six year old Tyler Malabuyo from Guildford after he guessed the correct name of Fuzzy Pegg! Tyler was then presented with the giant bunny by White Lion Walk’s very own mascot, Lionel the Lion.

Shoppers at White Lion Walk see spots

On Saturday 21st March children visiting White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford were in for a treat as the town’s resident youth theatre company, The Man in the Moon (MIM), was offering free spotty face painting to celebrate the launch of their new show The Hundred and One Dalmatians.

Throughout the afternoon MIM members transformed over 40 young shoppers into lovely spotty pooches and talked to them about their new family friendly production which is appearing at The Electric Theatre in April.


2015 Mothers day

White Lion Walk gives shoppers a ‘blooming marvellous’ gift for Mother’s Day

On Saturday 14th March staff at White Lion Walk in Guildford handed out over 250 free bunches of tulips for shoppers to give to their mums ahead of Mothering Sunday the following day.

The giveaway was part of the shopping centre’s new social media and online initiatives. To receive their free bouquet, shoppers simply had to sign up to White Lion Walk’s e-newsletter or ‘like’ their Facebook page enabling them to keep up to date with future events and retailer offers.

Valentine’s Day luck for snap happy shoppers at White Lion Walk

Last week we were delighted to take the winners of our Valentine’s Day competition, Ciprian and Vanessa, on a special shopping trip to Next within White Lion Walk so they could spend their £150 prize money.

The couple, who won after their Valentine’s Day photo received over 170 votes on the centre’s Facebook page, treated themselves to a few select items to boost their spring wardrobe including a lightweight jacket, denim dungarees and a snazzy pair of converse style trainers.

Capture your love this Valentine’s Day at White Lion Walk

On Saturday 14th February shoppers at White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford got into the spirit of Valentine’s Day by capturing their love on camera with the centre’s free photo booth. Utilising a host of hilarious props and outfit accessories shoppers posed throughout the day with either a loved one, family member or friends taking away a free photo strip of their picture as a memento.

Now, everyone’s romantic snaps have been uploaded onto White Lion Walk’s Facebook page and the person featured in the photo with the most number of likes will win £150 worth of vouchers to spend within the centre.
