Green apple 2016 White Lion Walk on the way to Green Glory

White Lion Walk has won a Regional Gold and a National Bronze Green Apple Environment Award in the international campaign to find the greenest companies, councils and communities. White Lion Walk competed against more than 500 other nominations in the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice, and was presented with 2 trophies and certificates at a glittering presentation ceremony in the Houses of Parliament, London on November 11. As a result of this Green Apple Award success, White Lion Walk have been invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow and learn from the achievement.

Christmas in Guildford gets started with a bang! White Lion Walk sponsors annual firework display at town's Christmas light switch on event.

Christmas in Guildford was officially launched on Thursday 17th November when the town's Christmas lights were switched on by a host of characters and celebrities. The spectacular event went with a bang again this year thanks to White Lion Walk Shopping Centre's annual firework display - the grand finale of the celebrations. As official sponsors of the town's annual Christmas event, White Lion Walk has provided the fireworks display for over 10 years. Each year the Guildford shopping centre teams up with us here at the Surrey Advertiser to find one lucky child to push the start button on the spectacle and 10 year old Ollie Bennett from Worplesdon Primary School was picked as 2016's winner. In true celebrity style Ollie was invited to meet the stars of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre's Pantomime Aladdin and the Centre Manager of White Lion Walk, Steve Cotney, for a photo call before being whisked onto the platform to push the all-important button that started the festive season with a colourful bang.

Wand-erful' Halloween spectacular at White Lion Walk

Guildford shoppers and their families were in for a wizarding treat on Saturday 29th October as White Lion Walk Shopping Centre hosted their very own Harry Potter themed Halloween event. Throughout the day visitors to the centre were invited to take part in the free 'magical' treasure hunt where, if they found the hidden ingredients posters and helped create a special 'Liquid Luck' potion - or 'Felix Felicis' to be precise, they were rewarded with their very own selection of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Jelly Beans - perfect for those wanting to play a Halloween trick on their friends!

Opening success for White Lion Walk's Monopoly: Guildford Edition pop up store

With Monopoly's Guildford edition now officially launched and the game hitting the shops, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre is delighted to announce that their first dedicated pop up shop was a huge success. White Lion Walk's pop up store opened for the first time on Saturday 22nd October and the sales team was inundated with excited shoppers looking to purchase the game - almost selling out of their stock in just five hours! The popularity of the Guildford game is undisputable with stores projecting that it will become one of the top selling Christmas gifts for the town's residents and visitors this year.

Guildford commuters raise close to £100 at White Lion Walk's Macmillan Coffee Morning!

Guildford commuters were served tasty treats courtesy of White Lion Walk when the centre hosted its annual coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. This year the centre's event rose just under £100 for the charity. Held for Macmillan as part of their wold's biggest coffee morning, representatives from the centre greeted commuters at Artington Park and Ride with coffee from Starbucks and sweet treats from Millie's cookies from 7:30am until 11am. The money raised will go towards paying for Macmillan nurses, Macmillan benefit workers and Macmillan social workers who provide medical, emotional and financial support for those dealing with cancer. Last year the coffee morning raised a record £27.6 million nationally and an astonishing £139 million since it's launch in 1990!

Guildford goes back to the Ice Age as Sid the Sloth visits children at White Lion Walk

Following the release of the new Ice Age: Collison Course movie last month, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre hosted a film inspired family fun day for shoppers on Saturday 13th August with special guest Sid the Sloth. Hundreds of shoppers of all ages got the opportunity to meet with Ice Age’s Sid, posing for photos with the hilarious sloth that youngsters all over the world have fallen in love with thanks to Ice Age’s five movie blockbusters. Continuing the fun throughout the day, little shoppers could become one of Scrat’s – the acorn-obsessed sabre-toothed squirrel from Ice Age – cadets and take part in a free treasure hunt. Children had to hunt around the shopping centre to help Scrat find his much loved acorns in return for free sweet treats. Furthermore, on finding the golden acorn, participants were automatically entered in to a free prize draw to win an incredible hamper of Ice Age themed goodies courtesy of 20th Century Fox.

Shoppers go ‘Around the World’ in… well 2 minutes!

On Saturday 23rd July hundreds of shoppers at White Lion Walk in Guildford got to pose in front of some of the world’s most iconic sights - including the Vegas skyline, the Egyptian Pyramids and Great Wall of China - thanks to the shopping centre’s ‘Around the World’ event.
Everyone who had their photo taken was then treated to a fantastic complimentary memento of their experience to take away.The exciting free family event, which was held in celebration of the start of the school summer holidays, gave shoppers the experience of travelling to their dream holiday destinations without the need of a passport, aeroplane ticket or even having to leave the streets of Guildford - all thanks to a very clever green screen facility that was brought in.

Winners announced for photography competition

Held in celebration of White Lion Walk’s sponsorship of Guildford in Bloom and championing Surrey’s natural beauty, the competition invited budding photographers to capture the county’s landscape and its wildlife on camera. White Lion Walk Shopping Centre is delighted to announce the winner of their photography competition, in conjunction with The Surrey Advertiser and Guildford in Bloom, is Raj Saaj from Guildford with his photo ‘Dawn over the Weald’.
With an overwhelming amount of entries, the competition was fierce. All of the photographs were displayed within the shopping centre during the month of June, where six finalists were then picked by White Lion Walk’s Centre Management team. Raj was then selected as the winner following a public vote through the Surrey Advertiser.

Local children create ‘blooming marvellous’ window for Queen’s birthday

The young participants not only helped the experts from Clandon Park Garden Centre pot up the plants for the display, but also designed their very own pot which now features in the incredible window display that can be found at White Lion Walk (next to NEXT children’s wear) from 4th to 19th June - covering the Queen’s official celebratory birthday dates.On Saturday 4th June over 60 children from Surrey took part in special workshops at White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday.  Throughout the day the children, aged between 3 and 15, took part in gardening workshops alongside White Lion Walk’s event partner Clandon Park Garden Centre to help build an incredible plant pot window display within the shopping centre.

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre has been successful in the 60th year of the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2016 and achieved the Gold award in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
The RoSPA Awards is celebrating 60 years of presenting highly-regarded and sought after accolades to businesses and organisations which have shown commitment to accident and ill-health prevention.  Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards and events, said:  "To win an award at such a highly-regarded event as the RoSPA Awards is a great achievement for our winners.

Families have ‘cracking’ good Easter at White Lion Walk

On Saturday 26th March families at White Lion Walk in Guildford were treated to a day packed full of fun as the shopping centre hosted their free Easter ‘Egg-stravaganza’ event.
Throughout the day, children not only had the chance to meet the popular nursery rhyme character Humpty Dumpty, but also got to take part in a special treasure hunt around the centre putting Humpty ‘back together again’ in return for scrumptious Easter treats.  Furthermore, the children were able to have their faces transformed into Easter themed works of art by the centre’s free face painter and also enjoyed free storytelling sessions at Trotters Childrenswear.

New mum wins big this Valentine’s with White Lion Walk

White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford is delighted to announce that the winner of its Valentine’s competition is Catherine Prior.
Catherine, who gave birth to her daughter Flora just a few weeks ago, was selected as the winner after entering the shopping centre’s Facebook competition. Although Catherine’s father Michael Barnet collected the prizes on her behalf (as she was looking after her new-born) she was presented with her hamper of prizes, which included champagne glasses from Robert Dyas; jewellery from H. Samuel; chocolates, a cuddly toy and candles from Card Factory; homeware from Next, Cargo and Babylon; accessories for S-Ponder and much more, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
